Joan
Hayes
“What excites me most about creating a piece
of art is the element of surprise that comes
with each piece of art I work on. I may start
out with an idea for a painting and the medium
will send me in a whole new direction. Sometimes
it can be challenging but mostly it is very
rewarding.”
Joan was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont.
She began her training in the arts as a young
teenager of thirteen when an older sister offered
her the option of piano or painting lessons
for her birthday. Joan opted to paint and has
never strayed from that path. Joan continued
private lessons until college where she attended
St Michaels College in Vermont and later at
Mississippi University for Woman in Columbus
Mississippi .
After college, Joan continued painting, focusing
mostly on watercolors. In 1989 Joan and her
family moved to Amherst New Hampshire where
she opened her painting studio and gallery.
Joan now focuses primarily on land and seascapes,
continuing to focus on watercolor and also acrylic.
Today Joan continues to pursue her love of painting
from her Amherst home.
